When Segway Takes the Turn into Electric Two-Wheelers
For quite some time, I've been eagerly anticipating the moment when Segway-Ninebot would unveil an electric bicycle!
In 2021, Segway Ninebot China had teased us with the prospect of a hydrogen-powered motorcycle through a crowdfunding campaign—the APEX H2. Regrettably, it never saw the daylight despite the success of its prototype.

Fast forward to CES 2024 in Las Vegas, and the revelation hits – Segway has ventured into the e-bike realm, introducing two new machines : a speed bike named Segway Xyber and a smart bike resembling an SUV, aptly Segway Xafari.
The aluminum frame, a testament to precision, was meticulously crafted in a single piece using the "One Piece Gravity Casting Frame" method.
Both these models share cutting-edge technologies and feature functionalities unique to the Segway-Ninebot universe :
Active Scene Perception: Based on the perception of the road condition and the user, the vehicle will intelligently make various actions, such as adjusting power output, turning on or off headlights, initiating or locking, and so on.
Seamless Connectivity: Integration with Mobile phone Health apps, and Ninebot’s vehicle networking platforms.
Advanced Data Monitoring: Real-time tracking of mileage, speed, calories burned, and more.
Comprehensive Anti-Theft Measures: Featuring hidden rear wheel hub locks, Ninebot air lock AC triggering a mobile alarm, GPS functionality, and location-based alarm systems.
All-In-One Smart Cockpit: Integration of smart applications, electronic speakers, sensor headlights, music playback, and intelligent navigation systems on a color display dashboard.
Tailored Operation: Stepless power assistance setting for intuitive and adaptive control, enhancing rider convenience.
XAFARI
The Segway Xafari, born out of exemplary technical design, stands out with a gravity-cast monobloc frame—reinforced and seamless. This frame, blending robustness with structural integrity, promises unwavering resistance to the extreme constraints of all-terrain environments.
The efficiency of the Xafari's full suspension system relies on an 80mm front suspension and a 70mm rear suspension, coupled with an imposing all-terrain wheelset measuring 26 x 3.0 inches.
This configuration ensures optimal shock absorption and exceptional grip, guaranteeing a stable and responsive performance on various surfaces.
Xafari's electric power is driven by a high-density 913-watt-hour energy battery, significantly extending the overall autonomy and surpassing the average of electric bikes in the United States.
The motor, boasting 750W of power and delivering a torque of 80 Nm, imparts the Xafari with powerful and consistent propulsion suitable for all-terrain demands.
The turbocharger function, capable of providing approximately 1 kWh in just 4 hours, offers a rapid recharge solution, allowing the Xafari to swiftly regain its maximum energy potential.
The adjustable height, ranging from 4'11" to 6'3", adds a practical dimension by adapting the Xafari's configuration to different user sizes.
XYBER
The Segway Xyber sets a new standard for e-bike riding, blending exceptional design and top-tier performance. Its distinctive and futuristic appearance appeals to trendsetting riders, offering an unmatched experience for two. Engineered with a motorcycle-class double cradle frame system, the Xyber ensures stability and reliability on challenging terrains. The extra-large seat cushion enhances comfort for both riders during extended adventures, delivering a luxurious riding experience.

A high-torque motor boasting 175Nm, delivering rapid acceleration from 0 to 19.8 mph in 2.5 seconds.

Leveraging Ninebot's acquired self-balancing technologies from Segway, substantial patents have been introduced with its lineup of scooters, kickscooters and gyropods.
