The ultimate smart e-bike companion is back and better than ever.
While full waterproofing is still on the wish list (fingers crossed for version 3), the new pocket drone makes up for it with a stacked list of upgrades. Leading the charge for riders are its new obstacle avoidance system and a massive boost in following speed—now rivaling the HoverAir X1 PRO.
It also adds 2-axis stabilization, gesture control, the ability to fly over water, and a new built-in screen. Plus, with expanded onboard memory, you get far more options for shooting in stunning 4K."
Regarding its features and use, you can read my review of the original NEO (the first model) on this page:
Having just been released in Asia, the NEO 2 should be available in Europe sometime in November.
Thanks to its new sensors, it can now safely fly over water.
The Return-to-Palm feature is now more precise than with the first NEO
The NEO 2's battery is located on its back
A defining characteristic of the Neo 2 is its flexible, multi-modal control system, which adapts to both casual and professional use cases.
Controller-Free Operation For immediate, intuitive capture, the drone excels without a traditional remote.
Palm and Gesture Control: Users can launch the drone directly from their hand using Palm Takeoff. The Gesture Guidance system allows for precise repositioning; a single palm guides the drone's direction (up, down, side-to-side), while using both palms controls its proximity. When finished, the Return-to-Palm feature allows it to locate the user's hand and land safely.
Voice Control: By connecting a smartphone or Bluetooth earphones, users can issue flying commands, providing hands-free operation ideal for activities like cycling or running.
Controller-Based Operation For advanced pilots, the Neo 2 integrates into DJI’s wider ecosystem.
Standard RC Control: Pairing the drone with a traditional remote like the DJI RC-N3 transforms it into a precision tool. This setup enables professional-level control and unlocks a maximum video transmission range of 10 km.
Immersive FPV: The drone is also compatible with DJI goggles and a motion controller, offering an immersive First-Person View (FPV) flight experience for a completely different creative perspective.
The Digital Transceiver module can be attached to the back when flying the drone with a remote controller or goggles for stable, low-latency video transmission.
Intelligent Tracking: The ActiveTrack System
The Neo 2's automated cinematography is powered by an enhanced ActiveTrack system. It is capable of following subjects at speeds of up to 12 m/s, making it suitable for tracking runners and cyclists.
Thanks to the integration of the Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing system, obstacle detection eliminates worries about the follow-me mode. Previously, you had to look back to ensure no obstacle was impeding the NEO drone's flight path.
the cycling follow option with an estimated follow max speed of 40 km/h
More significantly, the system supports tracking in eight directions (forward, backward, left, right, and all four diagonals). This allows for smoother, more natural, and cinematic follow-shots, as the drone can move parallel to a subject rather than just trailing behind. This tracking capability is fully integrated with the drone's safety systems.
For solo creators, a SelfieShot feature automates the process, maneuvering the drone to capture composed waist-up, full-body, or long shots without manual intervention.
Despite its palm-sized body, the Neo 2 houses a high-performance imaging system.
Core Specifications: The camera is built around a 12MP, 1/2-inch CMOS sensor. It records crisp 4K/60fps video and can capture high-frame-rate 4K/100fps slow-motion footage. For social media, it also supports 2.7K vertical video.
Stabilization: Footage is stabilized by a 2-axis mechanical gimbal working in conjunction with Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). This hybrid system ensures smooth results across various flight conditions.
Image Processing: DJI’s portrait optimization technology is included, which automatically enhances brightness, contrast, and skin tones for more natural-looking results.
DJI has implemented a dual-protection system to build pilot confidence.
Active Sensing: The drone features a comprehensive Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing system. This is not just a visual system; it is a sophisticated fusion of monocular vision sensors, a forward-facing LiDAR, and a downward infrared sensor. Together, they create a real-time 360-degree map of the drone's surroundings to actively avoid collisions.
Passive Protection: The drone’s design incorporates full-coverage, integrated propeller guards. This physical protection works with the active sensing system to provide comprehensive safety, especially for new pilots or indoor flights.
This safety net is supported by solid flight characteristics, including the ability to hover stably in winds up to 10.7 m/s and a maximum flight time of 19 minutes from a single battery.
