At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Yamaha Motor is unveiling world-premiere models, prototypes currently in development, electric and hybrid motorcycles, electric wheelchair concepts, and e-bikes.
To celebrate its 70th anniversary, Yamaha is offering fans the best of its concept e-bikes, creating a retro series, the Y-00B, with two models: the Y-00 Base and the Y-00 Bricolage.
The slim, clean design of these two e-bikes is directly inspired by the brand's first model, the 1955 YA-1 motorcycle.
The YA-1, known for its sleek, elegant design painted in chestnut red, was nicknamed "Aka-tombo" (赤トンボ), or "Red Dragonfly," by enthusiasts. It’s easy to imagine that if the Y00−Bricolage concept bike, sporting the same hues, one day hits the streets of Japan, it will earn the same poetic nickname.
The Y-00 Bricolage, with its design mixing chrome and chestnut-red, is stunning.
From the 1955 model, the Y00−B line adopts and adapts the lines of the rear rack, front rack, and front fairing, the handlebar and headlight assembly, the low center-of-gravity mid-drive motor position, and a distinctly vintage saddle.
The "Dual Twin Frame" is specific to Yamaha: it is a double-tube frame where the battery is discreetly integrated into the downtube.
The battery which can be equipped with a USB-C adapter module for charging.
As for the HMI, a simple LED indicator is remarkably integrated between the dual top tubes with a power button.
The assistance mode controls buttons are located on the left handlebar grip.
The Yamaha motor remains imposing for this type of e-bike, but it is an integral part of the 1955 aesthetic. Louis Vuitton tires? Let us dream of the chic, the fashion, and the French elegance, combined with this retro design !
"Bricolage" is a word of French origin, it means "Do It Yourself" but is recognized as a personal art of remedying one's own needs for improving the comfort of one's daily life, in all areas.
A magnificent chrome frame, where vintage wear and colorization effects—suggesting oxidation—imbue this ebike with a history waiting to be invented.
Yamaha's expert designers conceptualized these models to allow for modularity adapted to each user's needs, aiming for unlimited customization (handlebar types, racks, saddles, tire types, etc.).
Finally, the visible welds on these models elegantly defy the current market trends of seamless, single-piece forged frames.
Is it really just a concept bike? I suspect that all fans of smart, retro-vintage e-bikes are already searching for where to buy this Yamaha Y-00 Bricolage. This model looks ready.
