The original Urtopia Joy Carbon was a neat ride, blending the unique characteristics of a family utility bike (fat tires, low step-through frame) with comfort, thanks largely to its suspension fork. The compelling arguments for a rigid, shock- and vibration-absorbing carbon fiber fork, which also shaves a significant pound off the tiny cargo bike's weight, may have been the catalyst for this new model: the Carbon Joy Ultra.
The Carbon Joy Ultra remains a Step-Through Fat Bike in the hybrid mini-cargo category, but lighter than ever. To achieve a net weight of 19.05 kg (42 lbs) (down from 20.4 kg for the original, according to the latest spec sheets), Urtopia has swapped the 50 mm front suspension fork for an all-carbon fiber rigid fork.
A positive aspect of replacing the hydraulic suspension fork with a rigid one is the lower maintenance cost; hydraulic forks typically require annual servicing, which comes with an expense.
However, the bike retains all the performance and technology that made the Joy Carbon a success:
Power and Range: A 750W hub motor (60 Nm), a 529.2 Wh battery (offering up to 112 km/70 miles of range), and a torque sensor for precise pedal assistance.
Durability: 20" x 3.0" tires and a maximum load capacity of 150 kg (330 lbs).
With the hydraulic fork's maintenance cost out of the picture, the Carbon Joy Ultra achieves a more fluid design and remains a choice focused on maximum urban maneuverability and lightweight performance, combining the advantages of a mini-cargo bike.
It is available in Rose Red, Cream, Lychee Pink, Glacier Blue, and Charcoal Grey.
