Last January at CES 2026 in Vegas, alongside the release of the commuter-focused MYON, Segway-Ninebot gave us a pleasant surprise. They expanded their e-bike division by unveiling a fourth model: the MUXI, specifically designed for "busy parents."
Now, in March 2026, the MUXI has officially launched on the Segway USA store, allowing us to dive deeper into its true potential and capabilities.
Joining the new generation of compact and maneuverable family utilities, this "tiny-mini-cargo" prioritizes comfort and safety by leveraging Segway's proprietary technologies.
It leans into a purely retro aesthetic: Dutch-style curved handlebars, and frame colorways in Dusty Sage or Olive Rush, paired with tan-wall tires. It also features the signature mag wheels necessitated by the massive motor integrated into the compact 20-inch rear wheel.
Regarding utility customization through accessories, there is the option to install a child seat and footrests on the rear rack, as well as a front-mounted basket.
Tipping the scales at 73 lbs (~33.1 kg) fully assembled, the Segway MUXI is engineered around a highly accessible short-tail, step-through frame. This architecture is specifically designed to maximize daily utility and stability for parents managing heavy grocery runs or rear-mounted child seats.
Power delivery is handled by a direct-drive rear hub motor generating a nominal 750W and peaking at 80 Nm of torque. When paired with the 716Wh (48V) power pack (removable battery), riders can expect a maximum travel distance of up to 80 miles (~128 km), capping out at a top assisted speed of 20 mph (~32.1 km/h) under Class 1 or 2 configurations.
In terms of weatherproofing, the removable battery unit and the smart TFT screen boast an IPX7 certification, while the main chassis carries an IPX5 water resistance rating.
As a heavy-duty family hauler, the MUXI supports a substantial total payload of 418 lbs (~189.6 kg), with a dedicated maximum rider allowance of 265 lbs (~120 kg).
Moving to the drivetrain, the MUXI relies on a streamlined single-speed gear ratio. It utilizes Segway’s Algorithm 2.0 adaptive pedal assist, an intelligent system that continuously reads terrain, acceleration, and incline data via integrated sensors to seamlessly modulate motor output without requiring manual shifts.
Stopping power comes from dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors and regenerative capabilities, rolling on 20x3.0-inch tires backed by an active Traction Control System to prevent wheelspin on slick neighborhood streets.
Interestingly, while the MUXI is built for approachable, everyday family transport, it houses a hyper-advanced security perimeter... meaning with integrated Apple Find My, proximity Airlock, and remote shutdown capabilities, it acts as a virtual fortress against theft.
Regarding comfort, Segway has developed a truly innovative accessory: an automatic, connected telescopic seatpost! This isn't just a suspension seatpost; it is far more sophisticated...
The Xiro Dropper is a smart telescopic seatpost—a genuine safety feature fully integrated into the MUXI ecosystem (originally launched with the MYON). While riders usually have to choose between a high saddle (optimal for pedaling and knee health) and a low saddle (safe for placing feet flat on the ground when stopping), the Xiro eliminates this dilemma.
Thanks to its intelligent automation, the saddle lowers on its own as soon as the rider slows down to a stop, allowing them to stabilize the bike with total confidence.
Real-Time Awareness
Unlike traditional manual dropper posts, the Xiro is "aware" of the bike’s status. It communicates in real-time with:
Speed sensors: To detect deceleration.
Cadence sensors: To know when pedaling has stopped.
Brake sensors: To confirm the intention to stop.
This synergy ensures a smooth and precise descent at the exact moment the rider needs it. Additionally, it draws power directly from the e-bike's main battery, eliminating the need for separate charging.
Customization via the App
The mobile app interface offers two primary settings for the Xiro Dropper's behavior:
"When the E-bike detects that you want to park the vehicle, the Xiro will lower to the bottom position automatically so as to let you easily stop the E-bike."
1. Auto-lower Mode
This is the heart of the system. When activated, the bike detects the intent to "park" or stop. The post then automatically moves to the low position.
2. Lowering Speed
Riders can adjust the mechanism's responsiveness across three sensitivity levels:
Soft: For a slow and progressive transition.
Standard: The balanced default setting.
Sensitive: For an instantaneous descent upon detecting a stop.
Integration and Ergonomics
The integration is designed for ergonomics, allowing the manual control to be assigned to a handlebar button.
It should be noted that after installation, the system defaults the command to the left round button on the handlebar. This results in the original horn function becoming unavailable. However, a manual adjustment in the app is possible to reassign controls according to your preferences.
Just like others brand's models equipped with the SEGWAY INTELLIGENT RIDE SYSTEM, MUXI includes the following features:
AirLock is a wireless proximity security system for vehicles. It automatically locks and unlocks the vehicle based on the user's proximity, and triggers an alarm if tampering is detected. The system can also be controlled manually via a mobile app or passcode.
a Smart TFT Display offers high-resolution, multi-color visuals with automatic brightness adjustment. It provides navigation, ride metrics, music control, and call management.
Segway's IoT Platform utilizes GPS for remote monitoring, app-based control, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. The system provides maintenance reminders to ensure timely service. Cloud binding of the bike to the user and battery prevents unauthorized use and theft.
The dual-component tracking system, using Apple Find My and Segway GPS, provides high-frequency location updates for continuous awareness of the bike's position.
The Intelligent Lighting System includes automatic headlights (high/low beam), daytime running lights, and taillights.
Real-time Health and Fitness Data syncs with Apple and Android health apps, as well as the Segway Mobility app.
